The Els Ports Ecomuseum is an initiative promoted by the sociocultural dynamism that characterizes the municipality of Orta (Horta de Sant Joan), which presents it to neighboring municipalities and invites them to participate and work together taking advantage of the heritage resources of the Ports (both natural as cultural) in order to promote the integral development of the current and future population of this territory.
The Ecomuseum wants to contribute to this integral development by promoting, participating and inviting the search for a better knowledge of our history and our identity, making this knowledge accessible to the population and visitors in general in a coherent way, with a scientific basis, and also in a reflective and didactic way.
We understand that the museological principles of ecomuseums and the new museology go hand in hand as a general framework for managing our heritage and enhancing our identity.
The aim of the Ports Ecomuseum is to make known, through the Head of the Ecomuseum and its radials, part of this natural and cultural heritage that extends inside the massif and the villages that are in the their environment.
The Cap de l’Ecomuseu, located in the old town of Orta, must be your starting point and the gateway to discover our heritage, represented by the Port massif.
Els Ports is one of the best-preserved and most spectacular areas in the Mediterranean area and is home to an important display of flora and fauna.
