An incalculable heritage

From the Iberians, Romans, Arabs, Templars, Hospitallers, Aragonese, Catalans, and with different styles, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Modernist have left their works and today represent a gem for lovers of architecture. Each village in the Terra Alta has several different monuments worth visiting, some villages are partly a monument. We also have natural monuments such as the ancient olive grove of Horta de Sant Joan, El Pimpoll and Pi ramut d’Arnes.

Curch of Sant Joan Baptista

During the 13th century-XIV inducted the building of the parish Church of Saint John the Baptist.

The church is Gothic of an only nave coated of turn of creueria, with polygonal letterhead, finestrals ogival and contraforts esglaonats that project at the outside. The apse and the first stretch are the most ancient part, the rest of the edifice finalised among the 15th and 16th centuries. The façade excels for his simplicity, with a flat and broad rectangle with a simple door and a rosette at the top. The restoration of the Church made at the decade of the years 60 of the 20th century, as well as the installation of the new vitralls that contribute chromatism and natural light at the pool.

Ermita de Sant Antoni Abat

Saint Antoni Abat of Horta of Saint Joan is Horta’s a hermitage of Saint Joan (Earth Alta) included at the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia. There is a chapel with the same name beside the road.

Building very simple of rectangular plant and dimensions reduced. It finds at state of ruin owed partly at the bad quality of the masonry that conformed the master walls. It seems that the interior was ornate with elements of Baroque style and silverware for a dud turn.

Ermita de Santa Bàrbara

They are aligned with the start of the sun at the equinoxes of spring and autumn. Convent de Sant Salvador, o Convent de la Mare de Déu dels Àngels

The Convent of St. Horta’s Salvador is a Franciscan convent also met as a Sta. Maria of the Angels, constructed at the foot of the mount of Saint Salvador, that aixeca east of Horta of Saint Joan, at the Earth Alta.
